Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces growing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the main group to embark on their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group features the determined fighter (played by Travis), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might appear mismatched, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing started the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a hostile location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the team enter areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Seekers and Planners tables.

Audiences can anticipate discovering which players will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
