Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then discovered many other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state early analysis suggest the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in connection with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the community for details.
A high-ranking representative commented the vandalism made him without words and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, referring to the death of nine people by a shooter aiming at people of immigrant origin in 2020.
